Joseph SkalskiJoseph C. Skalski, CPA, JD of Dunwoody, Georgia is the owner and operator of the Skalski Law Firm, LLC, where he serves private clients in the following ways:

• Advising on sophisticated real estate transactions, including forward and reverse 1031 exchanges, land conservation, charitable contributions of real estate, capital gain structuring, and loan forgiveness issues

• Counseling with respect to utilization of income tax reduction techniques

• Optimizing entity structures and interrelationships with respect to corporations, limited liability companies and partnerships, trusts, and available tax elections

• Planning for estate and business succession in a manner that minimizes transfer taxes and protects assets against waste while maintaining peace in the family

• Helping with formation and maintenance of tax exempt entities such as family foundations and other not-for-profits

• Advocating for clients who encounter Internal Revenue Service challenges to their tax return positions by employing suitable tax defense strategies

Joe is a Certified Public Accountant, Georgia (2004), Florida (1987) and Maryland (1984), was admitted to practice law, Georgia (2015), Florida (1989), Maryland (1984), New Jersey (1983), U.S. Tax Court (1990).

A member of the board of directors of the Atlantic Coast Conservancy, Inc., a prolific land trust and conservation proponent, Joe has also served as Treasurer for Mountain Conservation Trust of Georgia.

Joe’s past includes a ten year stint with the CPA firm of Large & Gilbert P.C., where he was Shareholder and Tax Director, as well as a founding member of Conservation Pays, LLC, where he assisted clients with the conservation of over 30,000 acres of land.

Before coming to Georgia in 2005, Joe practiced for some fifteen (15) years in Clearwater, Florida as an attorney with Joseph C. Skalski, P.A., and a principal of Skalski & Clark, CPAs. Prior to that, he was a Tax Manager for a local CPA firm in St. Petersburg, Florida as well as PWC in New York and Baltimore.

He is also past Board Chair of Family Service, Inc., a social service organization with two affiliates: Family Service Centers and Family Service Home Health, where he served a dozen years. He has also served a number of years as an adjunct instructor with St. Petersburg College and Tampa College.
He is a member of the American Assocation of Attorneys/CPAs, the American Institute of CPAs, the Georgia Society of CPAs, the Florida Bar, the American Bar Association, and the Land Trust Alliance.

Joe has authored publications in the ABA Technology and Practice Guide, The Practical Accountant, the Maryland Bar Journal, and the Tax Advisor, as well as chapters in the book “Federal Tax Aspects of Bankruptcy” among other publications.

He received his J.D. degree, Georgetown University while serving the Federal government, and his B.A. degree, Seton Hall University, and participated in the VIP program of NYU Stern.

At home, Joe is married to the CEO of Kimberly A. Skalski, CPA, PLLC, an accounting and tax firm that does business throughout the Southeast. Hobbies include travel, hiking, chess and raising a calico and a pug.
